Blog #5 Tsuut’ina First Nation

My digital story is about the Tsuut'ina nation, I chose to do my digital story with google slides and the video will mention who the Tsuut'ina people were, the separation story, where the Tsuut'ina people are located today, residential schools & its legacy and finally how we can help Indigenous peoples on the path of reconciliation.

Something that I learned at Chief big belly school is the many different ways to incorporate Indigenous perspectives into my teaching. It was really eye opening to see how the school culture was at Chief Big Belly School, I really enjoyed it because of how inclusive they were and how they appreciated each of their students. Listening to how each of the teachers make an effort to make a relationship with students who attend Chief Big Belly. It is an amazing school.

Blog #4 Coding

My lesson plan that incorporates technology specifically the coding program SCRATCH is designed for students in grade one however I could argue that with the creative mindset it could be for any grade. Poetry is a type of art designed critically think about what to write with restrictions on what type of poem you are doing. I think that I would use this lesson plan specifically within the first division. In the future with my students I would use this for students perhaps as a station activity, a lesson as presented or even something they could work on in their free time. Having different methods for students to succeed and allowing them to find interests/passions within the classroom is what I aspire to do for my students.

In the future I would use this lesson plan integrating different types of poetry. I would alter it grade according. Having students engaged in through technology is something that I would like to do in my practice as it is important to introduce it to students to enhance their learning. I believe that Scratch is an amazing learning program designed for students which is allows them to understand coding, this I would have this program incorporated into my future classroom.

Blog #3 Creation App

One of the biggest impacts in the classroom that constantly evolves is technology. Incorporating technology into the classroom is such an important concept to do with students in this day and age. My partner Chantelle and I had a great time planning this lesson and we both will tweak them to potentially teach them into our practicum!

I thought that it was interesting teaching the lesson to my peers. I really thought it was an experience that helped our teaching practice. It allowed reflection to flow and it was almost like a practice run before we would do it in our placement. I think something that needs to made kept in mind   about the lesson is that students should be taught about their senses before hand and the seasons so they can properly divulge in the lesson.

Some highlights that our group shared was that they loved being on the land and that this was a great way to understand technology. It was mentioned that there was many engaging moments outside and that this is memorable way for students to take part in land based learning. Students who took part of this all mentioned that they enjoyed the outside aspect of the activity. I think it is important for students to go outside and be apart of the nature and really take everything in. It is important for their everyday learning.

All the feedback/highlights that my peers in class gave is appreciated. Overall I really enjoyed Flip grid App in general as it is a great way for students to be interactive with technology. I would incorporate this into my classroom and have students use it from K-9 I would argue and purpose the idea that high school students can also use the app for their learning. It is a fun way for students to be engaged in what they are learning. Only positive outcomes come from students who are engaged in their learning.
